The new Curator of the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan, Mrs Oriyomi Otuka, has promised to execute more projects and revitalise the Museum Society for greater effectiveness.
Otuka made the promise on Friday during a meeting with members of the society, in Ibadan.
She pledged to improve the state of the museum.
According to Otuka, a major way to improve the condition of the museum is through revitalisation of the Museum Society.
“I came with zeal to work. I am ready to take the friends of the museum to a higher level, we really need to set certain things in motion.
“There is a lot of work to be done, let’s do more of action. The museum needs to bubble with so many activities as an ideal museum,’’ she said.
Otuka said that the facilities in the museum needed to be fully utilised.
“It should be a place for recreation and not only for learning.
“I call on the society to wake up and bring workable suggestions to bring back the glory of the museum.

“We should repackage our programmes and make them better to attract more visitors,’’ she said.
Otuka said that she was prepared to work with partners to make the museum world-class.
The Chairman of the Museum Society, Prince Gani Adebiyi, called on members of the society to be more alive to their responsibilities and work in synergy to achieve desired goals.
“The first thing we need to do is to improve our visibility.
“Our members really need to be more passionate, dedicated and supportive.
“There is also need for us to use social media platforms to project the society and the museum in general,’’ Adebiyi said.
The chairman noted that the museum had recorded some achievements but needed to do more.
“With the help of God and the new curator, we will surely get there,’’ he said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Museum, Mr Femi Leigh, said that the society assisted the museum with pet projects and sensitised the public about the importance of the museum.
He added that the society facilitated some cultural programmes in the museum.
“The society, which membership cuts across all walks of life, serves as a springboard for the museum.
“We urge our curator to use her good offices to challenge more staff, people to join the society and be more vibrant.
“There are many benefits the society members are open to having,’’ he said.
He listed the benefits to include opportunities to attend international conferences, excursions and exhibitions; job opportunities, free gallery tours and free entrance into museums across the world.
