NYSC Oyo State has extended the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme to Paku Community, Egbeda Local Government Area where indigenes were offered free medical care by Corps Medical Personnel.
The program which is an initiative of the Scheme to bring free medical care services to the doorsteps of the rural dwellers and the indigent has been complementing the efforts of the three tiers of Government in the area of health care services.
The services rendered ranges from disease control intervention, first aid care,distribution of mosquito nets,treatment and referrals to hospitals.
Flagging off the 2nd quarter of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers program at the Community, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator,Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe in her remark urged the people of the Community to take issue of their health seriously.
She mentioned that clean environment cannot harbour sickness and encouraged them to always keep their surroundings clean.She equally called on them to maximize the laudable programme by making themselves available for the outreach.
The State Coordinator who was represented at the occasion by Assistant Director Community Development Service, Mr Olumide Adekeye charged the populace to be sincere and open minded while discussing their medical conditions.
She stated that the Corps medics, who are professionals and competent would offer necessary medical assistance and make referrals where necessary.
Expressing his appreciation, the traditional Head of Paku Community, Alhaji Yusuf Suara commended the National Youth Service Corps Scheme for initiating such a laudable programme which is geared towards impacting positively in the lives of the people.
While describing the corps members as critical Human Resources of Nigeria which cannot be underestimated,he said the health initiative testifies to the relevance of the Scheme.
He equally appealed that the HIRD programme should be sustained so that it would minimize the rate at which rural dwellers run to the cities for treatments while avoidable deaths could also be prevented.
The outreach had the Corps medics checking the vital health status of the people, diagnosis of ailments, prescribing/ issuing drugs and making referrals to hospitals.
The Sensitization and awareness rally which came up earlier the previous day contributed to the large turnout of the villagers for the medical outreach.
