FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Limited has planted trees at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Iseyin, Oyo State to commemorate the take-off of its Dairy Development Sustainability Model Nation Wide.
The activity, which was part of the organisation's effort to salvage the environment from the devastating effect of climate change was launched by the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe.
In her remark, Ogbuogebe highlighted the benefits of tree planting, which she said is one of the cost-effective ways to combat global warming.
She encouraged Nigerians to participate in the drive to combat climate change by reducing or ending activities that endanger the sustainability of the planet.
The SC also implored the corps members present to imbibe the spirit of tree planting in order to save our plants and mitigate against global warming.
The State Coordinator who applauded the organization for the initiative assured that the management of the NYSC scheme will mobilize its corps members, who are present in the 33 Local Government areas of the state to step down the message of sustainability in their respective host communities.
Earlier in his opening remark, the General Manager of Friesland Campina Wamco Nigeria Limited, Mr Adekunle Olayiwola lauded the Scheme for its human resource capacity, saying their company can effectively disseminate message and enlightened the publics on afforestation with the aim of saving their environments.
He said trees have the rare capacity of decreasing CO2 in the atmosphere making them valuable assets in tackling the climate crisis. According to him, as trees grow they absorb and store the carbon dioxide emissions that are driving global heating.
Adekunle assured that the campaign, which is aimed at engaging local stakeholders in the fight against global warming, would be strengthened to assist the Federal Government in actualizing its emissions reduction commitments.
Highlight of the event was the planting of trees by the State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, Assistant Director Community Development Service, Mr Olumide Adekeye, Mr Adekunle Olayiwola and Corps Ambassadors.
