The Polyconsult, Polytechnic Ibadan, is partnering Capricorn Concierge Tourism Services Ltd. on a domestic tourism empowerment programme, tagged ‘The Business of Domestic Tourism’.
While signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the institution and the firm, on Monday in Ibadan, the Executive Director of Capricorn Concierge Tourism, Mr Ibitayo Araoye, said the programme is a three-month empowerment programme that would be running concurrently as a professional course.
He said the course is tailored to provide responsible jobs after the completion by the students.
According to him, the partnership is targeting the empowerment of about 5,000 unemployed youths in domestic tourism sector within the first year.
“The programme will teach, enlighten, encourage, expose, empower and engage the unemployed on how to start earning responsible income in the domestic tourism sector.
“Other benefits include: income generation and equal opportunities to everybody.
“Capricorn Concierge Tourism Services is registered with the Corporate Affairs Corporation (CAC). It is
also registered with the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation and Oyo State Tourism Board.
“The company is into the Promotion and development of Domestic Tourism, using gadgets.
“Through the gadgets, developed by our company, people will not really take the risk of traveling to see tourist sites but can stay wherever they are and have a tour of the site,” he said.
The General Manager, The Polytechnic, Ibadan Ventures Ltd., Mr Remi Babalola, said the firm had the mandate to train people on short term through seminar and workshops.
Babalola added that the programme also runs Advanced Certificate, Ordinary and Higher Diploma either by itself or in conjunction with any other institution across the globe.
He said it partnered Capricorn on developing the business of domestic tourism in the country through professional, practical and hands-on training and certification up to diploma level.
“The programme is capable of empowering our youth and bringing the business of tourism to limelight in Nigeria.
“The partnership will create employment opportunities, promote tourism and boost our economy by developing the neglected tourism sector,” he said.
Babalola also remarked that the opportunity derived from tourism is enormous that one could hardly exhaust it.
He urged Nigerians and government at all levels to work together and harness the potential of tourism to boost the economy.
A member of the Poly Ibadan Governing Council, Alhaji Bola Akinyemi, said the poly ventures is ready to support anything that would positively impact the society.
“We shall seriously encourage anything that will make the partnership work,” he said.
Also, Mr Rotimi Ayetan, the South-West Coordinator of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), commended the partnership, saying it will go a long way to impact the students’ lives and promote tourism.
The dignitaries at the event include representative of the Oyo State Government, National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism and other stakeholders. (NAN)
