Corps Members have been charged to live by the noble objectives of the scheme, shun ethnic sentiments, promote national unity and integration during and after their service year.
The Director North West Area Office, Mr Amusan Oluwole Julius made this call while addressing 2023 Batch A stream one corps members, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin.
Amusan encouraged them to eschew primordial sentiments and live by the noble objectives of the scheme.Referring to the corps members as the pride of the nation , he enjoined them to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and strive to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
The Director assured the corps members that measured have been put in place to ensure their safety both during the orientation course and the rest of their service year.
He however warned them against embarking on unnecessary journeys, according to him most deaths of corps members resulted from road accident. He told them to break their journey whenever it's becoming too late.
Speaking on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the scheme, he advised the corps members to key into it to get equipped for self-employment.
The Director North West Area Office also encouraged the corps members to accept their posting in good faith and emphasized on the need for them to leave an indelible mark in their various host communities through Community Development Service.
Amusan used the occasion of his visit to sensitize the corps members on their engagement during the conduct of the forth coming general elections. He admonished them to be responsible and avoid accepting gifts and inducement from politicians.
The Director equally advised the corps members to be cautious when using the social media.He said it can either make or mar them.
He warned the corps members to avoid negative comments about the nation and the leaders, "use your service year to defend Nigeria's unity " he advised.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator Mr Odoba Abel Oche , appreciated the Director for visiting the corps members and the Camp Officials, he said the Camp Management is committed to making sure that the corps members have minimal comfort.
He assured the Director that every part of Oyo State is relatively safe, peaceful and habitable for the corps members and they would be posted to all the nooks and crannies of the State, where they would serve diligently and make positive impact.
Odoba stated that 2023 Batch A stream one corps members had demonstrated high sense of discipline by responding to all camp activities promptly.
The Director after his briefing of corps members also had a meeting with the members of staff and charged them to be committed, efficient and build good reputation for themselves.
He promised that their challenges and observations as laid bare in the meeting would be looked into and assured them that their labour would be adequately rewarded.
Highlight of the events of the visit was the inspection of Camp facilities by the Director North West Area Office.
