Members of the Landlords Association in Ketu in Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State have called on critical stakeholders in the state to come to their aid by halting the ongoing demolition of houses in the community.
Newsline NG learnt that some houses in the area were said to have been demolished based on the order of the Commissioner for Education in the State, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, a brother to one Akeem Oluwo Wahab, who has been parading himself as the Alaketu of the Ketu kingdom, which has generated mixed reactions in the area.
It was also gathered that the aforementioned Commissioner of Education, plotted with his brother to demolish some houses in the area with a promise to pay the owners of the homes a whooping sum of N1 million naira.
According to a source, this act generated mixed reactions among the Landlords as they vehemently rejected their offer, saying they couldn't let their houses built with their hard-earned money be demolished.
Some affected residents while expressing their grievances with our correspondent however called the State Govt to intervene with immediate zeal in the ongoing unlawful demolition of houses in the area.
They also called on Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and other human rights teams to restrain Mr. Tokunbo Wahab from selling the land occupied by residents to the Lagos State government.
Speaking with our correspondent, one of the affected landlords, Mr. Fasanya Yussuf Amuda, expressed dissatisfaction over the demolition of houses.
"The land I bought in 1976 during the Era of Olusegun Obasanjo as the head of state has been demolished; I am seeking financial assistance from Nigerians.
"The Octogenarian, a retired civil servant, said he had served under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for 35 years.
Also, Mr. Amuda's Wife, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Fasanya, while expressing displeasure over the demolition of houses in the area, said all they had worked for years was demolished.
Newsline NG gathered that twelve rooms, buildings, and three shops belonging to Mr. Fasanya Yussuf, alongside other landed properties, were demolished.
They unanimously urged the state government to swiftly into action with immediate alacrity.
