As Christians celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the Bishop, Catholic Diocese Of Oyo, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, has called on Nigerians to show more love to God, one another and less self love to make a better world and country.
Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.
Badejo gave the advice on Sunday in his Pentecost message, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
The Catholic Bishop remarked that too many hatred and crimes were being experienced in the country and the world because of lack of love and tolerance.
Badejo emphasised that it is providential and not a coincidence that the transition to another regime in Nigeria is coming up a day after Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit.
“God is still speaking to all Nigerians loud and clear.
“God is telling both the leader and the led to embrace the authentic Holy Spirit of God, the spirit of truth, love and peace.
“God gave us the Holy Spirit to set us free. Let us all work for truth, justice and peace.
“There is no other way to a better country than to give everybody what is due to them,” he said.
He urged Christians to pray and receive the Holy Spirit to be able to inflame the world with God’s love.
“God is love, Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit is God; only love can save us.
“We pray for the infilling of the Holy Spirit because through His power we can conquer all situations,” Badejo said.
The News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) reports that pentecost is the day Christians celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his ascension, held on the seventh Sunday after Easter.
It is one of three greatest festivals of Christendom. The other two are Christmas and Easter. (NAN)
