The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mr. Samuel Amaramiro Pepple has advised the graduate youths mobilised for national service to enhance their academic certificates and embrace Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
The State Coordinator offered this advice at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko during the flag-off ceremony of the SAED activities for the 2024 Batch 'A' (Stream II) orientation course.
Pepple, who once worked as a Deputy Director in the department of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED) at the Directorate Headquarters asserted that Corps Members lives will not be the same again the moment they embrace the intervention the Scheme established twelve years ago.
"This is a period to tell ourselves the gospel truth. The white collar job or paid employment is shrinking, yet our various institutions of higher learning are turning out graduates all year round with little prospects of securing jobs but NYSC, through pragmatism, came up with this programme to assist corps members to be independent during and after the service year and I want to admonish you to take advantage of the great opportunity".
He announced that NYSC has gone into collaboration with youth empowerment organisations, financial institutions as well as specialised Banks to provide grants, loans and other technical assistance to corps members.
The Coordinator said that the statistics of graduates without employment or means of sustenance is alarming which according to him could lead to crime rate and other societal decadence but he passionately appealed them to make hay while the sun shines.
The NYSC Ondo State boss, like a father who desired the best for his children enjoined them to start small and grow their businesses legitimately, saying Rome was not built in a day. He likened growing a business to planting a seed which will germinate and produce result if nurtured and tendered carefully .
In his opening remarks, the Assistant Director/Head, SAED, Mr. Olugbenga Justus Adefehinti admonished the corps members to listen attentively to the Facilitators/Trainers and choose the skills they have passion and preference for.
Adefehinti announced that Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) and Hands on training were part of SAED programme and charged them not to handle those training with levity.
He announced that SAED programme was divided into two; the in-camp training where nine days have been dedicated to introduce the corps members to the eleven sub skill subsets and take them through the rudiments while the post-camp training will ensure that they perfected what they were exposed to at the orientation camp.
Highlights of the flag-off ceremony were sensitisation by Trainers/Facilitators who have been carefully selected by NYSC and testimony of serving and ex-corps members who embraced SAED programme rom the orientation camp.
The State Coordinator who was accompanied by Principal Camp Officials later visited the SAED Centre where he inspected goods and services put on display.

The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ondo State, Mr. Samuel Amaramiro Pepple has told Heads of Camp Committees that security matters are beyond arm-chair discussion.
The State Coordinator made the statement during the first Steering Committee meeting held at the new Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) Studio to appraise the 2024 Batch 'A' (Stream II) orientation course.
Pepple, who reiterated the commitment of the NYSC management towards ensuring that the security and welfare of corps members are giving priority attention, charged members of the committee to do everything humanly possible that security is not compromised from any quarter.
The NYSC Ondo State boss expressed optimism that synergy and cordial relationship among the camp officials will assist the camp administration to give perfect service delivery to the members of the service corps.
He admonished them to act responsibly at all times towards the corps members and display high sense of discipline so that those that are being led will understand the seriousness that the orientation course entails.
The NYSC Ondo State helmsman reminded the participants to enforce the implementation of code of conduct on their subordinates and those working with them so the the soaring image of the Scheme will not in any way be affected by attitude of some carefree individuals.
He intimated the meeting with the new relocation policy and appealed to them to sensitise all other camp officials, insisting that information is power and must be shared.
The administrator who is known for his participatory leadership style encouraged them to interact freely with him and discuss any observations or contributions they have that will assist to run the camp smoothly.
The Camp Director, Mr. Jonathan Kolawole gave comprehensive report of the activities of the first week in camp and appreciated all the camp officials for their commitment and dedication to duty, as he called for more synergy among the camp officials.
