Owena Press Staff Union Passes Vote of Confidence on Chairman

The leadership of Owena Press Staff Union (OPSU) has expressed disapproval of the planned picketing action against the Company by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025

The OPSU condemns the planned action, stating that it was undertaken without proper consultation with the Management of Owena Press Ltd, publishers of The Hope titles, as it will only be unfair as the reasons adduced by the NUJ are completely one-sided.

The ongoing reorganisation within the company, which involved the redeployment of Mr. Akindele Adubuola to go edit a new title being introduced by Management, is an internal matter carried out in accordance with the company’s established conditions of service.

We firmly believe that external interference, particularly from unions, is inappropriate and should be rejected.

At its meeting on January 17, 2025, the Management Committee passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Kayode Fasua, as the OPSU can confirm.

Our Union is thus commending his efforts in the ongoing reorganisation process, which aligns with the company’s vision for improved performance.

This initiative is aimed at repositioning Owena Press Limited for greater success.

The OPSU further urges all staff members to support Mr. Fasua’s leadership and cooperate with him in efforts to elevate the company to high standards expected of a leading media organisation.

Thank you.
