The Organising Committee of the Igogo Ekiti Day Celebrations has announced its readiness to organise another ground breaking edition of the annual day fiesta, which as usual, will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the town, in addition to a grand fundraising event aimed at furthering development projects and social amenities.
This was the fallout of the committee meeting at the weekend, where the Chairman, Dr Williams Mobolaji Afolabi charged members to buckle up for a work round the clock, saying the confidence reposed in the committee demands that the outcome of the 2025 edition must surpass that of last year, inspite of its tremendous successes.
Afolabi expressed optimism that the programme, if meticulously organised, will not only boost economic growth but also foster collective progress of the community.
As the planning begins to gain momentum, the Chairman urged stakeholders, home and abroad, to join hands, more than ever before, to lift the image of Igogo Ekiti beyond its current status and emphasised that only collective efforts, as demonstrated in 2024, can propel a new wave of development to transform the town into a thriving hub of socio-economic activities.
He announced that this year's edition would experience more pumps and glamour as the 50th-year anniversary activities of the Igogo Ekiti Commercial High School Old Students' Association (ICHSOSA) will be incorporated into the weeklong celebrations, which he said will attract a huge turn out of people from far and near across ages and occupational divides.
Meanwhile, Afolabi's advent as the Chairman of the organising committee has received widespread commendations from prominent sons and daughters of Igogo Ekiti, home and overseas, given the remarkable outing of the past year during which unprecedented free donations poured in from individuals, families, organiations and community groups, demonstrating his capacity to mobilise people to embrace strong sense of commitment to the town's development through self-help approach.
Expressing gratitude to the community members for their enthusiastic responses to the yearnings of the community by their generous contributions in cash and kind, especially as demonstrated last year, Afolabi stated that, like Oliver Twist, his committee is coming again to seek more support as this year's edition gains momentum.
According to him, only resilience, determination and support of our people can transform our town into a model of excellence.
While applauding members of the committee for their unflinching sacrifice at all times, he emphasised that those who make themselves available for the service of his community in whatever form are writing their names in gold in the annals of the town's history, saying every deed is a seed that sooner or later will germinate to bear fruits, good or bad.
