The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Ondo State Chapter, has commenced its 2025 Week of Activities in celebration of the association’s 40th anniversary.
Running from Sunday, June 1st to Saturday, June 7th, the week-long programme is centered around the theme “FOMWAN@40 – Impacting Lives & Developing Communities.”
This milestone celebration highlights FOMWAN’s four-decade commitment to community development and humanitarian services.
The Ondo State chapter continues to operate in line with the association’s national constitution, focusing on outreach initiatives that benefit the less privileged across the state and beyond.
Ongoing Community and Humanitarian Impact
FOMWAN Ondo has implemented numerous interventions including:
Support for Correctional Facilities: Regular visitations to Olokuta and other correctional homes, including payment for the release of selected inmates and provision of essential supplies.
Women Empowerment: A wife of an inmate was equipped with nylon production tools and startup capital to begin a business.
Orphanages and Hospitals: Visits and donations to motherless babies’ homes, payment of hospital bills, and provision of medical support to vulnerable patients.
Elderly and Vulnerable Outreach: Through its Elders’ Forum, FOMWAN provides food, clothing, and financial aid to widows, orphans, and the elderly, especially during Ramadan.
Inclusive Education Support: Regular support to special schools such as the School for the Blind, Hearing Impaired, and the Handicapped, including being named "Life Matron" by the School for the Blind.
Student Support: Assistance in supplementing school fees for indigent students.
Emergency Aid: Donations to a disabled nursing mother in the Akoko area, who required urgent medical attention after childbirth.
2025 Week Activity Schedule
1. Sunday, June 1, 2025 – Opening Day
Press Conference on the anniversary theme, highlighting key achievements and ongoing impact across the state.
2. Monday, June 2 – Thursday, June 5, 2025
Product Exhibition & Sales: Display and sale of FOMWAN-made goods including disinfectants, woven mats, Adire fabrics, bedding, bags, decorative items, and snacks.
3. Friday, June 6, 2025
Special Jumat Services held in mosques across the state.
Sermon Topic: Humanitarian Services – A Tool for Islamic Propagation & Human Development.
4. Saturday, June 7, 2025 – Humanitarian Day
Commemorative Lecture: Humanitarian Services – Catalyst for Community Growth and Sustainable Human Development.
National Grand Finale
All week-long activities in Ondo State will culminate at the national gathering during FOMWAN’s 2025 National Conference to be held in Kaduna, marking a symbolic close to the 40th anniversary celebrations.
FOMWAN calls on all media outlets and stakeholders to lend their support in amplifying the voices and efforts of women working to uplift communities through selfless service.
