A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Lanre Fayemi, has strongly dismissed as misleading and baseless, a statement signed by the Chairman of Ifaki Ward 2, Mr. Sule Rasak Owolafe, claiming ignorance of his membership status in the party.
Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Hon. Fayemi described the Ward Chairman’s position as an “aberration and a product of undue political pressure” allegedly orchestrated by loyalists of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to discredit him ahead of the party’s governorship primaries.
In a show of transparency, Hon. Fayemi publicly displayed his APC membership card and the official ward register, bearing his registration number EK/DEK/08/12402, as proof of his long-standing membership. He further challenged Mr. Owolafe to publish the full APC register of Ifaki Ward 2 if he genuinely stands by his claims.
“As a bonafide member of the APC, I reserve the constitutional right to support any aspirant of my choice in the forthcoming governorship primaries, and my candidate is Engr. Kayode Ojo,” Fayemi declared.
Responding to allegations of his purported defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2022, Fayemi dared the Ward Chairman to produce credible evidence including witnesses and an authentic SDP membership card to substantiate his claim.
He added: “No amount of propaganda or blackmail can alter my conviction. Engr. Kayode Ojo remains a trusted politician with visible investments in the Ekiti project, and his rising profile has become a source of anxiety to Governor Oyebanji’s camp.”
Hon. Fayemi further criticized Governor Oyebanji’s administration for what he described as a failure to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, stressing that his government’s reputation has been severely damaged by alleged mismanagement of resources.
“As a true son of Ifaki-Ekiti, with years of political experience and verifiable documentary evidence before me and my team, I can boldly draw the attention of Ekiti people and Nigerians to the leadership and governance failures under this administration. The era of mismanagement, embezzlement, and inequitable distribution of our commonwealth must come to an end in Ekiti State. Change is inevitable,” Fayemi concluded.
