Barely a week after resuming office as the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Poroye Biyi has found himself confronted with an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the Chairman, "the EFCC invitation has nothing to do with my person as Prince Biyi Poroye but is tied to my new office as Chairman of OSOPADEC.
"The petition in question covers the period from 2018 till date, long before I assumed leadership of the commission, and has already been responded to accordingly.
"Upon assumption of duty, I was immediately faced with several pressing challenges that demanded urgent attention and restructuring to reposition the commission for effective service delivery.
In OSOPADEC, we need to prioritize the implementation of the amended law, which serves as the foundation for its operations, while also ensuring strict adherence to appropriate bureaucratic principles.
"OSOPADEC was never designed to run like conventional ministries where processes are often slowed down. Instead, it is an interventionist agency created to tackle emergency situations in its mandate areas, requiring activities to be executed with speed and precision."
Since the Chairman and other board members assumed office, they have demonstrated a readiness to perform while studying the internal structure of the commission with plans for an overhaul, he has focused on reviving abandoned projects worth billions of naira with the goal of completing them for public use as directed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The team had also embarked on familiarization tours, engaged key stakeholders, resolved litigations through alternative means (thereby saving the commission millions of naira), and sought support from interventionist agencies to source funds.
Additionally, Poroye has prioritized payments of bursaries and scholarships, grants to the aged and vulnerable, and has invested in staff training and capacity building initiatives that were lacking in the past.
He has also shown keen interest in staff welfare, improving the work environment, and introducing innovative concepts to drive the system more effectively.
His team insists that no amount of blackmail, administrative bottlenecks, or misinformation will distract him from his mission. “The spirit to perform is high, the willpower is active, and his capacity to navigate manipulations is visible,”
