Osun 2026: Group warns internal collapse, seeks Tinubu's intervention

As political activities intensify ahead of the crucial Osun State APC governorship primary election scheduled for December 13, 2025, the Integrity Group of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter, has raised a strong alarm over what it describes as “escalating internal hostilities that, if left unchecked, may derail the party’s historic opportunity to return to power in 2026.”

In a statement released in Osogbo on Friday, December 5, 2025, by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ismail W. Alade Iwa, the State Chairman, Comrade Salam Mustapha Olamilekan, made a passionate national appeal to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, urging him to immediately intervene and bring all disenchanted aspirants to a roundtable before things degenerate beyond repairs.

According to the Osun Integrity Group of Nigeria, the rising tension fuelled by the supporters of some aspirants, has taken a dangerous turn, with frequent verbal altercations, media attacks and subtle character assassinations flowing between the camps of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and the former National Secretary of the APC, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

The group expressed deep worry that this unhealthy political heat, coming at a time when Osun State APC enjoys massive goodwill from the public, poses a real threat to the party’s chances in the 2026 general elections if not swiftly controlled.

“When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. The internal rivalry between some major blocs within the Osun APC must not be allowed to escalate to the point where ordinary party members, loyal supporters and the party’s electoral fortune becomes the casualty,” the group declared.

The Integrity Group emphasized that Osun APC currently holds one of the brightest opportunities in recent years to reclaim the governorship seat from the present administration, which many citizens believe has failed to meet expectations. They stressed that losing such a golden opportunity due to avoidable internal conflict would be an unforgivable, self-inflicted wound.

“We appeal to President Tinubu, as the national leader of our great party, to immediately summon all the aspirants, major stakeholders and interest groups, particularly Oyetola and Omisore, to Abuja for a presidential peace conference. It is time to calm  nerves, define collective interest, and restore discipline before December 13th, 2025”,  the group urged.

The Osun Integrity Group further called on all the governorship aspirants, their supporters, and party leaders across the state to refrain from divisive statements, bitter propaganda, and actions capable of tearing the party apart.

“The APC must go into this primary with love, unity, and maturity. We must not repeat the mistakes of the past. God has already granted us a favourable atmosphere to return to government in 2026; let us not destroy our own chances through reckless infighting,” the statement concluded.

The Osun Integrity Group reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and good governance, stressing that integrity, co-operation, and responsible leadership must remain the guiding principles as APC approaches one of the most defining moments in its political journey.
