Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in the last election, Agboola Ajayi, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress.
As reported by PUNCH, Ajayi formally returned to the APC on Tuesday at Apoi Ward 2 in Kiribo, Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state, several years after leaving the party.
Speaking at the event, the former deputy governor said his decision was motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the party and support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
He explained that his return was also aimed at backing the EASE Agenda of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as well as Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the federal level.
Ajayi described his move as a reaffirmation of his full membership of the APC, noting that it would enable him to participate actively in the party’s activities and decision-making process.
Drawing from global political experiences, he said political disagreements should not be allowed to override collective national interest, stressing that reconciliation was vital for democratic growth.
He commended Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms, insisting that the policies had laid a solid foundation for long-term national development and economic stability.
Ajayi also urged party members to rally behind Aiyedatiwa, saying collective support for the state government would accelerate development and improve governance outcomes.
Reacting, Aiyedatiwa described Ajayi’s return as a significant boost to the APC in Ondo State, noting that his experience and grassroots influence would strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
The governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Legislative and Party Affairs, Babatunde Kolawole, said the development reflected growing confidence in the APC’s leadership at both the state and federal levels.
Earlier, the Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, hailed Ajayi as a seasoned grassroots politician, saying his return had further united the party and positioned it strongly for victory in the 2027 elections.
