The suspects—Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola—were said to have posed as pastors and spiritual leaders, claiming they possessed supernatural powers to perform miracles and provide divine solutions to financial difficulties, health challenges and other personal problems.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the group allegedly staged fake spiritual interventions to gain the confidence of their victims before extorting money from them.
The Command disclosed that the suspects were apprehended on February 16, 2026, during a coordinated operation carried out by its Tactical Teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate operated in a highly organised manner, with each member assigned specific roles to give credibility to the fraudulent scheme and make their activities appear genuine.
“The suspects exploited the faith and emotions of members of the public for financial gain,” DSP Jimoh stated, warning residents against falling victim to similar deceptive practices.
He advised members of the public to exercise caution and thoroughly verify claims of miracles or spiritual interventions before parting with their hard-earned money.
The police further noted that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the total number of victims, the amount allegedly defrauded, and whether other accomplices are still at large.
The suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations, as authorities reiterate the need for vigilance against fraudulent religious schemes.
