A tragic incident has shaken residents of Supare-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a man identified simply as Ife is alleged to have killed his mother.
The victim, reportedly a health officer, was found dead in her home on Thursday afternoon following the suspected attack.
According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the suspect had earlier been seen carrying a stick, arousing suspicion among residents. When questioned, he allegedly claimed the stick was meant for cooking purposes.
The source further revealed that the deceased had briefly returned home to pick up an item when the incident occurred. It was also gathered that the suspect had previously displayed violent behaviour towards his mother.
When our correspondent visited the community, residents were seen in clusters, discussing the shocking development in hushed tones.
A witness at the scene said operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, responded swiftly, arrested the suspect, and evacuated the victim’s remains.
The witness also alleged that the suspect was known in the area for drug abuse.
