The founder and Senior Pastor of Faith and Miracle International Church, Ibadan, Prophet Gbemiga David, has called on Christians to participate actively in politics to promote moral and ethical leadership
David said that people of faith have a crucial role in promoting moral and ethical leadership to ensure fairness and good governance.
Addressing a news conference in Ibadan on Tuesday, the cleric said political participation by Christians could help reshape governance if anchored on discipline and integrity.
“Christians should get involved in politics, God can guide leaders, but they must live right, be prayerful, fair, and accountable," he said.
Prophet David also urged religious leaders to remain steadfast in preaching the truth regardless of societal pressures.
“The church must not compromise. We must continue to preach the truth at all times because that is what sustains society,” he stated.
Speaking on the security challenge facing the country, the cleric said that government interventions must be rooted in justice and fairness.
According to him, fairness is key to rebuilding public trust in leadership.
“There is always a consequence for every action,” he said.
David advised President Bola Tinubu to prioritise justice and fairness in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and cautioned against granting amnesty to perpetrators of violent crimes.
“Everyone must be treated fairly. Government should not take decisions that undermine justice.
“When people see fairness, it strengthens confidence in leadership,” he said.
The cleric called on Nigerians to take responsibility for national development, saying sustainable change begins at the individual level.
He advised young people to be realistic and shun social vices.
“No nation is perfect, not only Nigeria.
“They should stay away from distractions such as taking drugs, and guns on the streets, rather they should be industrious,” the cleric said.
David urged Nigerians to be spiritual rather than merely religious.
“It’s not about having a pattern of going to church or mosque regularly but to live a life of impact.
“Wickedness is the problem we have in Nigeria and not religion. Our faith is not the problem but the heart of wickedness.
“The moment there is correction of this, we will make a better nation,” he said.
On the forthcoming elections, he said people should “vote their conscience and spirit.”
Addressing his name change from “Adetuberu” to “David,” he said it was personal and necessary to follow God’s mandate and calling.
David said that his ministry aims to raise people who are fair, just and true both in the church and society.
“Our core aim is to impact the lives of people, starting from Ibadan, through our lifestyles.
“We want to make Ibadan a place worthy of beauty, excellence and splendour,” he said.
