ODSUBEB Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency

The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) has dismissed allegations that it received or disbursed the sum of N785.5 million for the construction of classroom blocks and related educational facilities at certain locations referenced in a recent publication, describing the claims as false, misleading and unsupported by official records.

In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Public Relations of the Board, Mr. Banjo Egunjobi, ODSUBEB clarified that the publication incorrectly attributed some projects to the agency without proper verification of project ownership, implementing authorities and budget allocations.

The Board explained that although some of the schools mentioned in the report had previously benefited from educational infrastructure interventions, those projects were executed under different approved programmes and not under the alleged expenditure.

According to ODSUBEB, educational projects earlier completed at the identified locations include the renovation of a six-classroom block at Ayedun Community Primary School, Akure, carried out under the 2023 UBEC-SUBEB Matching Fund Intervention, and the renovation of another six-classroom block at Army Children School II, Akure, executed through the 2021 UBEC-SUBEB Matching Fund Intervention.

The Board stated that both projects were duly implemented and completed in line with approved specifications and existing regulatory standards.

ODSUBEB stressed that it welcomes constructive public scrutiny and remains supportive of accountability mechanisms aimed at improving governance and public service delivery. 

However, the Board maintained that effective budget tracking must be guided by accurate verification of project details, including implementing agencies, locations, project descriptions and approved financial provisions.

It warned that the publication of unverified information could mislead members of the public, damage institutional credibility and weaken genuine efforts directed at promoting transparency and accountability.

The statement further noted that the claim linking ODSUBEB to the alleged N785.5 million expenditure lacked factual basis and did not reflect the Board’s official financial and project records.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and quality educational infrastructure across Ondo State, ODSUBEB called on the authors of the publication to engage relevant authorities for proper clarification and to correct the misleading impression created in the public domain.

The Board also urged members of the public to disregard the publication as it concerns ODSUBEB and continue supporting ongoing efforts to improve access to quality basic education across the state.

Court Strikes out Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy Declaration

A High court sitting in Okitipupa has nullified the Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy declaration, holding that the State Government had no power to create a new chieftaincy without the consent of the Rebuja of Osooro land, the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in the communities within Osooro land, including Iju-Odo Community.
