OSOPADEC Chair, Poroye Reaffirms Commitment to Community Development

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has showcased a series of completed and ongoing infrastructure and social intervention projects across its mandate areas as its Executive Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, marked his first year in office.

Poroye, who assumed office in June 2025, said the commission had concentrated efforts on completing inherited but viable projects while also initiating fresh interventions aimed at improving living conditions in oil-producing communities.

Speaking during an inspection tour of selected projects, the chairman said the achievements recorded within the past year reflected OSOPADEC’s commitment to sustainable development and people-oriented governance.

According to him, the board, upon inauguration, adopted a strategy of prioritising abandoned projects that could deliver direct benefits to residents, noting that the decision had accelerated development across several riverine communities.

Among the projects inspected were newly completed concrete walkways in Obe-Nla, Obe-Rewoye, Obe-Ogbaro, Obe-Magbe and Obe-Lomore communities. Poroye disclosed that the projects had been completed and were awaiting formal inauguration.

He explained that replacing old wooden walkways with durable concrete structures was intended to improve safety, accessibility and ease of movement for residents living in difficult terrains.

Speaking on the Obe-Nla project, Poroye described the completed walkway as a reflection of effective planning and quality execution, adding that the community is also being considered for a pilot land reclamation initiative proposed by the commission.

The chairman also inspected the Molutehin Mini Water Scheme, which he said had reached an advanced stage of completion. He revealed that an additional borehole was being drilled to strengthen water supply and ensure residents enjoy improved access to clean and potable water.

Poroye reiterated the commission’s resolve to address infrastructure deficits in oil-bearing communities in line with the development agenda of the Ondo State Government.

While acknowledging challenges including limited funding and increasing project demands, he expressed optimism that more developmental projects would be delivered in the coming months.

He commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for supporting the commission’s programmes and creating an enabling environment for growth across the mandate areas.

Poroye also praised engineers, contractors and community stakeholders for their cooperation, describing their contributions as instrumental to the successful execution of projects.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mr F.A. Omomowo, said the projects demonstrated OSOPADEC’s commitment to grassroots development and improved welfare for residents.

He urged host communities and beneficiaries to protect public infrastructure and ensure proper maintenance for long-term sustainability

Court Strikes out Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy Declaration

A High court sitting in Okitipupa has nullified the Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy declaration, holding that the State Government had no power to create a new chieftaincy without the consent of the Rebuja of Osooro land, the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in the communities within Osooro land, including Iju-Odo Community.
