Gunmen Storms Church, Abduct Cleric, Members
Suspected gunmen have abducted an NKST Church cleric, Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, along with two members of his congregation during an attack on church premises in Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the assailants invaded the pastor’s residence located within the NKST Church compound in Andyar, Ishan Classis area of the state.
Confirming the development in a statement dated June 30, the General Secretary of the church, Rev. Dr. T. A. Targba, described the incident as unfortunate and called on Christians and members of the public to pray for the safe and unconditional release of the victims.
According to the church, the attackers forcefully took away the cleric and the two worshippers before fleeing to an unknown destination.
The denomination expressed sympathy with the affected families and members of the Andyar congregation, praying for strength and comfort as they await the victims’ return.
The church also appealed to security agencies as well as the Benue State and Federal Governments to intensify efforts toward rescuing the abducted persons and ensuring that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
It further urged authorities to adopt proactive and sustainable security measures to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes, stressing the need to prevent such incidents rather than merely responding after they occur.
Expressing optimism over the victims’ safe return, the church reaffirmed its commitment to continued prayers for Rev. Gbinde, the two church members, and others currently in captivity, while also praying for lasting peace and improved security across the country.
