Igógo Ekiti Day 2026: Organisers Ban Masquerade, Oro Display at Fiesta

As the 2026 edition of Igógo Ekiti Day Celebrations draws nearer, the organisers have appealed to members of the community to refrain from parading any form of  masquerade or deity, also known as Oro, during the event, stressing that such activities are not part of the fiesta’s mandates approved by the community leadership.

The committee, in a statement, said the appeal becomes necessary to ensure that the annual events  remain in line with its objectives, which include cultural dance by various groups, social networking, presentation of awards and prizes and fund raising for the completion of different on-going community-based projects, including the construction of the ultra modern palace of the Onigogo of Igógo Ekiti.

According to the committee, the appearance of masquerades or Oro in such event could offend the sensibilities of visitors, particularly those who may be uncomfortable with weird traditional or spiritual practices being introduced into a purely social gathering as it may disrupt the expected friendly atmosphere for all participants and visitors.

The committee further appealed to anyone or group interested in displaying masquerades to wait until the days specifically designated for such  festivals and other traditional activities, noting that separating the activities would allow each celebration to maintain its distinct purposes and significance.

The committee therefore urged members to cooperate with the directive and help ensure that the fiesta is conducted peacefully and successfully without any form of harassment that may constitute a nuisance during the celebrations.

While assuring all of a tranquil outing, it further  expressed confidence that residents and visitors would respect the appeal and contribute to the development of the town by donating generously during the fundraising.
