COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MONTHLY CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS, NUJ, ONDO STATE COUNCIL, HELD ON THURSDAY 27TH AUGUST, 2026 AT THE PRESS CENTRE, PEN CRESCENT, ALAGBAKA, AKURE
The Congress was well attended by NUJ members across all chapels and was presided over by the Chairman of the Council, Leke Adegbite.
It deliberated on issues of public concern ranging from security, infrastructure, environment, to politics, economic, agriculture, as well as welfare of members. After exhaustive deliberations, the Congress resolved as follows;
1. That the Congress approved the inauguration of a 7-member Committee for the planning and celebrations of 50th Anniversary of Journalism in Ondo state "ONDO NUJ GOLDEN JUBILEE". Members of the committee include:

2. That the Congress however frowned at unprovoked harassment of some journalists by hoodlums led by one Temitope Romeo during the flag-off of the Akure second flyover. The hoodlums paraded themselves as staff of the Construction Company handling the project. The union called on Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the Bulletine Construction Company to rein Romeo and his boys, as any threat to press freedom will not be condoned by our Union.
3. That the Congress congratulates the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and residents of Akure on the successful flag-off of second Akure Flyover on Oyemekun-Oba Adesida-St Mathias road in Akure, the state capital, and called on the contractor handling the project to speed up the pace of work and complete it as scheduled.
4. That the Union again enjoined the Ondo State Ministries of Infrastructure and Ministry of Transport to remove unnecessary Tricycles and Okada parks on Arakale roads, noting that road serves as major alternative route for motorists during the construction period of the Flyover
5. That the Congress passed a Vote of Confidence in Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State Governor, for his immeasurable contributions to the journalism profession and his magnanimity in providing a conducive working environment for newsrooms at various media houses in the state.
6. That the Congress noted with concern the continuous strange odour in Akure, the state capital and environs, especially at night, and called on the state government to fast track proactive measures in detecting the cause of the foul smell and find permanent solutions.
7. That the Congress raised an alarm over the non-availability of vehicles' number plates in the state and called on officers of the Federal Road Safety Command, FRSC, and other security agents to stop sanctioning motorists without number plates. It also called on the state government to intervene and make vehicles' number plates available for motorists in the state.
