In another demonstration of responsive and compassionate leadership, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), has donated N1million cash to traders whose shops were destroyed by a recent fire outbreak at Ore Market in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The intervention, which comes on the heels of his support for victims of the recent floods across Ondo South, underscores Tunji-Ojo’s commitment to standing with vulnerable members of his constituency and the wider Ondo community in times of crisis.
Each of the affected traders received cash support, providing immediate financial assistance to cushion the impact of the disaster and help the beneficiaries take the first steps towards rebuilding their businesses and livelihoods.
Presenting the cash support to the beneficiaries, Hon. Yetunde Adeyanju described Dr. Tunji-Ojo as a compassionate and people-oriented leader with a deep commitment to the welfare of the people of Ondo State.
According to her, the true measure of leadership lies not in the position an individual occupies, but in the extent to which such an office is used to improve the lives of the people.
“Leadership is not merely about occupying public office. It is about being present when the people need help the most,” Adeyanju said, stressing that BTO’s intervention exemplified the practical impact of people-focused leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Akinnusi expressed profound gratitude to the Interior Minister for what she described as a timely and meaningful intervention.
She said the financial support came at a critical moment when the victims were struggling with the devastating consequences of the fire outbreak and uncertain about how to restart their businesses.
The gesture has further strengthened Tunji-Ojo’s reputation for grassroots engagement and practical intervention, following similar support for victims of natural disasters and other vulnerable groups.
From flood victims to fire victims, his interventions continue to reflect a leadership philosophy anchored on empathy, service and tangible support for ordinary people.
The presentation was attended by Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, former MHR, Odigbo/Ileoluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. (Mrs.) Yetunde Adeyanju, former Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Olurimisi Ismaila, Mr. Felix Olatunde, Mr. Felix Esan, Hon Iwalewa Afolabi and other prominent political and community leaders, who joined the beneficiaries in commending the intervention and expressing appreciation for the support.
