Seun Albert Foundation's “5ive Aside” Street Football Tournament Kickstarts Sunday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Seun Albert SOT Foundation is set to launch its inaugural “5ive Aside” street football tournament, scheduled to run from 14 December to 27 December 2025 at the Government Field, Ore, Ondo State. Registration opens on 19 November and closes on 4 December 2025, with a screening day for all participating teams on 6 December 2025. The convener of the foundation, Mr Seun Albert noted that the tournament will provide a safe, vibrant platform for local youth to showcase talent, stay off the streets and build community spirit through fast‑paced five‑a‑side matches. The competition will feature a knockout format, with matches played daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. under floodlights.  A total of 32 teams will compete for trophies for the winner, first runner‑up and second runner‑up, as well as individual awards such as Best Player, Most Disciplined Team, Best Supporter/Fan and Best Team Jersey. The third edition of the Adu Unity Football Competition kicked off in Akure with an exciting opening match between defending champions, Ijapo Ages Stars, and United Army, which ended in a 1–1 draw at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure housing agents The first half of the keenly contested encounter ended goalless before Eric Greg sent the crowd into jubilation in the 53rd minute, scoring the first goal of the tournament. His well-placed shot to the far left corner put Ijapo Ages Stars FC ahead. Both sides displayed impressive football artistry, thrilling spectators with skillful plays and tactical discipline. Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Sports, Hon. Kehinde Akinrotoye, has assured the management of the state Sports Council that the old glory of sports in Ondo State will be restored. He explained that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa cannot be everywhere to know what is happening in all sectors of the state, which is why he was appointed as the SSA on Sports. He added that it is important to have someone who will be giving the Governor on-the-spot reports of events, especially in the Sports Council. The former Coordinator of Rising Stars stated this at a meeting held with the management and sectional heads of the council in Akure, the state capital. Kehinde Akinrotoye (popularly known as Bonsue), has assured the management of the Ondo State Sports Council of the continued support of the present administration. Akinrotoye said Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is a sports-loving leader who remains committed to developing the sector. The SSA, who was accompanied by a member of the State Football Agency management committee, Pastor Segun Joseph, gave the assurance during a familiarisation visit to the Ondo State Sports Council in Akure, the state capital, on Monday. He urged the council’s management to roll up their sleeves and work harder than ever before to restore the state’s lost glory in sports.   Sports Writers Association Of Nigeria (SWAN) Ondo State chapter has urged the state Governor, Hon  Lucky Aiyedatiwa to appoint board for Ondo State Sports Council like he did for the football agency to engender all round development, saying lack of political head is affecting the council in term of performance . "All sports associations at the sports council are performing at their lowest ebb and  appointing political head for the council  will allow the ministry of sports to focus more on policy making." Team Cherry has defeated Team Apple 3-1 to emerge winners of the 2024 Ijapo Ages Stars FC Intra Club (IASFC) competition played at Ijapo Housing/field. Team Cherry had defeated Team Apple through penalty shootout having played a 2-2 draw in the regulation time in final tie. Shayo Olayeni gave Apple early lead in the entertaining final before Femi Kolawole responded swiftly with two quick goals to the admiration of the spectators at the sporting arena. Team Cherry jubilation were cut short as Monday Joseph levelled for Apple to take the encounter to straight penalty which ended in favour of Cherry who ended the competition unbeaten. Sunshine Stars unveil 21 new players for 2024/25 NPFL season

  Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure have added 21 players to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. Leading the pack of the newly signed players are Seth Mayi, goalkeeper Emmanuel Ofori, Achi Nnaemeka who reunited with the team after spending two seasons with Remo Stars, Lucky Vandy (Gombe United), goalkeeper Obiosor David (Bendel Insurance), Seidu Salisu (Plateau United) and Stephen Chukwude who also returned from Heartland FC.  Other are Peace Dewan (Gombe United), Yusuf Olowoshile (Bendel Insurance), Adamu Umar (Doma United) Dozie Umea (Gombe United)), Arunta Elmer (Enugu Rangers), Benjamin Iluyomade (Abia Comet), Segun Owoade (Inter Lagos) and Ismail Ayodele (Osun United).
