Aketi and the significance of Posterity

By Sunday Afolayan I was at the junction of the Government Housing Corporation Estate, Otapete, Owo on Wednesday 21/02/2024, when the body of the late Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, was being conveyed from the capital in a see-through ambulance.  A couple of vehicles, mostly from the pool of the state government followed in a long convoy. The scene,  as expected, was solemn. Everyone on the convoy wore sombre and doleful look. A thought flashed across my mind that made me reflect on the other side of life:   so this man called Aketi - the "talk and do Governor", in spite of his audacity and boldness, could no longer talk or do! I felt that if Akeredolu, the fearless fighter like the lightening thunder (omo aja bi arira oke) could lay this lifeless in his casket without being able to talk and do, then those of us still living should draw a lesson that life is, in deed, short and transient.  Only God deserves that attrib...

FRN vs Ali Bello: Court Shifts trial till March 14, warns EFCC to be diligent in prosecution

A Federal High Court in Abuja has shifted further trial in the charges against Ali Bello and Suleiman Daudu till March 14 with a warning to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to be diligent in the conduct of the trial. The Court, while granting accelerated hearing, threatened to close the charges against the defendants if the prosecution does not do due dilligence. Justice James Omotoso, who issued the warning on Friday, asked the anti-graft agency to always get all its witnesses and exhibits ready on adjourned dates so as to avoid delay. He warned that he would not tolerate lackadaisical attitude from any of the parties in the matter while shifting resumption of trial to March 14, 15, 20 and 21 . Justice Omotoso also directed the defendants to keep further objections against the trial at abeyance, especially to the final address stage. Minister to Ondo Corps Members: Believe in Nigeria

The Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Youths Development, Honourable Ayodele Olawande has charged corps members to believe and invest their youthful energies to develop the country. The Minister shared this optimism when he addressed the 2024 Batch 'A' (Stream 1) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko. Olawande, whose humility when he arrived camp held everyone spellbound declared that the graduate youths had no other country than Nigeria and assured that the country will be great again. "Gentlemen Corps Members, I want to let you know that irrespective of what we are passing through as a nation, things are going to be alright. O Ajayi said the prayer packed programme will be a blessing to people.  "As long as you are ready to call on God, he will surely listen to your cry, in view of this you are all invited for the revival, as it will bless lives, those in captivity will regain thier freedom. Oyo corps members urged to embrace SAED trainings

The Director, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development(SAED)NYSC, Mrs. Nwatarali Ngozi Dorathy has implored 2024 Batch A Stream 1 Corps Members to key into the NYSC's Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme so as to be independent and self-reliant, noting that it is a golden opportunity that should not be allowed to slip away.  The Director, SAED in her speech as delivered by the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche during the official flag-off of the SAED Programme for the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 Orientation Course held at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.   The Director mentioned that the NYSC through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme empowers Corps members with skills that can transform their lives.
