Liverpool thrash newly promoted side Norwich 4-1 to lead the Premier League table. It was an exciting match out there last night which birthed lots of brilliant performances all over the pitch.
Norwich fell behind very early in the game after Grant Hanley turned the ball into the back of his own net from Divock Origi’s cut back. Liverpool further scored more through Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi as they led 4-0 into the break.
Norwich however got a consolation goal in the second half of the game thanks to a brilliant finish from Teemu Pukki. They generally had a brilliant second-half display but it was clearly not enough as the damage was already done in the first-half.
Liverpool lost goalkeeper Alisson Becker to a calf injury in the 36 minutes and it has now been confirmed that he would miss the club’s UEFA Super Cup match against Chelsea in Istanbul on Wednesday.
Liverpool have now scored a total of 15 goals in all of their four opening day Premier League games under Jurgen Klopp.
Norwich have only won one of their first matches of the season in their last 17 campaigns.
Mohamed Salah has found the back of the net in Liverpool’s first Premier League game of the season in each of his last three campaigns with the club.
This is the second time an own-goal will be the first goal of a Premier League season. The first was Kyle Walker against Manchester United in United’s 1-0 win over Tottenham in 2015/16.
Salah has now scored against 21 of the 23 Premier League opponents he has played against for Liverpool. Only Swansea and Manchester United has he not scored against in two and four matches respectively.
Only Neymar has scored and assisted at the same time in more matches in Europe top-five leagues than Salah since the beginning of 2017/2018. Neymar has done that in 13 games while Salah in 12 games.
