Widows who benefited from Ondowidowscare initiative, under the leadership of the wife of Ondo State Governor Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu have described the gesture as the First of its kind in the state
They confessed that this was the first time they were specially remembered by any government in the state.
The palliatives which was recieved by over 1300 widows in Owo Local Government Area was aimed at cushioning the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on them
Both yesterday and today was a joyful moment for them as they could not hide their joy, showering praises on the first family in the state.
Mrs Dorcas Orimole from Okedogbon in Owo appreciated Arabinrin Betty Akeredolu for all her initiatives geared towards caring for women and girls in the state.
“I am very happy for what they have done for us. I am extremely happy. What they have done is good for the women. I pray that the wife of the Governor and Aketi himself will continue to prosper”, the widow in her late 60 said.
A Septuagenarian from Ipele, Mrs Caroline Olowosile said this was the first time she and her fellow widows would received such laudable gifts from any government in the state, describing the Ondowidowscare initiative as the first of its kind.
“Ever since governors have been coming on board in Ondo state, nobody has ever remembered the widows, except Akeredolu and his wife. I am very happy. As a widow, I have never benefitted from anything like this in the state. This is the first time and I am glad”, Mrs Caroline said almost in tears.
She prayed that God will continue to bless the people-oriented First Lady of the state,adding that all through the registration and disbursement of the palliatives, a dime wasn’t collected from them.
Similarly, a widow from Post-Office area Owo, Mrs Sidikat Babatunde, said, “What she has done is unprecedented and we won’t forget this gesture. I pray Aketi wins the election again”.
Also giving her testimony, Mrs Sade Fasuyi from Isuada described the First Lady as “Godsent”.
In her words, “the many food items given to us will help me to feed my hungry kids. This coronavirus really affected my business and since there is no husband again, I have to manage whatever I see. I am grateful for this. May God bless Mrs Akeredolu and her family. I pray she won’t become a widow”.
However, the kindhearted First Lady promised widows and women in the state that more benefits would come their way, describing the widows’ COVID-19 palliatives as a tip of the iceberg.
The First Lady, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender, Research and Documentation, Mrs Temitope Daniyan, declared that 1300 women and 20 BEMORE girls benefitted from the exercise in Owo LGA.
“The first lady is saying enough is enough; our widows will not suffer anymore. This is just the beginning, a tip of the iceberg: many more benefits are still coming for widows in Ondo state. Widows will enjoy during this tenure of Arabinrin and Arakunrin Akeredolu.
“We were here yesterday and we are here today because of the population. You can see the joy on the faces of our widows. They are grateful, joyous and appreciative of this gesture from our caring mother, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who has made this possible for women in Ondo state”, the SSA said.
The COVID-19 palliative distribution for widows had covered 12 Local Government areas of Ondo the state, to move to Ose.
