A fatal accident has been reported to have claimed many lives in a multiple car crash on Sunday night in Akungba Akoko in Akoko Southwest local government area of Ondo State.
VERACITY NEWS ONLINE reported that the accident happened, when a reckless truck was reported to have crushed 7 vehicles in a road mishap, leading to the untimely death of many commuters.
From an eye witness, it was learnt that many persons sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
The driver of the truck was said to have lost control of the articulated vehicle due to seemingly brake failure, causing it to crush 10 other smaller vehicles, among them an 18-seater commercial bus in which most fatalities occurred.
Another eyewitness, Sabah Folagbade who was at the accident scene yesterday said the trailer whose brake failed was coming from Ikare direction, collided with an eighteen seaters bus believed to be heading to the northern part of Nigeria.
He further stated that two motorcyclist were trapped as death toll was about twenty-two as of yesterday night, noting that there might be some dead bodies inside the swamp.
"It was pathetic a situation around 8:30pm yesterday, as a trailer fully loaded with rice had air collision with a bus going to the north. Again there was another vehicle parked with a vulcanizer, the truck collided with car, another towing vehicle, before killing two Okada riders"
"Now, I want to believe we still have dead bodies in that swamp, death toll as at yesterday night was twenty-two, although relevant security agencies tried their best"
The said accident took place at the city centre along Ikare to Owo road.
However, His Royal Highness Oba Isaac Sunday Adeyeye, Ajimo III, is said to have prayed for the reposed of the souls of the deceased and quick recovery to the injured.
