The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has called on the Nigerian graduates to display uncommon and exemplary leadership qualities to the service of the fatherland.
The State Coordinator made the call Sunday evening when she briefed the 2021 Batch 'A' (Stream 1) prospective corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
Mrs. Ani reminded the new entrants into the noble Scheme that their mobilisation and subsequent deployment for national service should be seen as a responsibility conferred upon them to contribute their quota to the development of our nation.
" My dear children, your invitation to national service is a privilege which you must not abuse and trust that you must not betray rather, a period to display uncommon and exemplary leadership qualities".
"It is an erroneous impression that youthful exuberance becloud the sense of reasoning of younger generations and they tend to misuse the opportunities given to them but with your education, I want you to show the outside world that you are capable, ready to serve the nation diligently and with all sense of commitment".
"The three weeks orientation course you are to undergo is intended to give you opportunity to rub minds with fellow Nigerians from different backgrounds and come up with common front on the best approach to adopt to tackle the myriad of challenges we are facing as a country".
The NYSC boss said that there can never be a better opportunity than now for the Nigerian graduates who have been mobilised from across the globe to see the problems facing the nation from a positive angle and use our diversity as strength to combat such.
"It seems impossible if not for the NYSC to see graduates in all fields of human endeavour having the opportunity to interact with one another and bring ideas and suggestions which till date is the only unifying platform to remain an indivisible entity".
She said that the period of orientation course, though may bring little hardships and discomfort because of its regimented nature but assured them that their human rights will not be infringed upon if they play the game according to the rules.
"We have an established code of conduct and you are to follow religiously and tenaciously channels of communication to present your views or observations before the constituted authority what you considered as aberration or what can assist to improve what is already on ground and this shall be administratively and competently addressed".
"You are to be solution providers to what is threatening our survival as a nation and not to compound our challenges by using the social media platforms to tear the country apart" she said.
The Ondo State NYSC helmsman reiterated the commitment of NYSC management to relentlessly wage total and absolute war against the Coronavirus pandemic which has affected the health of individuals and economy of countries globally.
"We have in place COVID -19 Monitoring/Enforcement Committee comprising of some of the Principal Camp Officials on one side and selected prospective corps members to act as Vanguards to ensure compliance to the protocols given by the Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)".
While wishing the prospective corps members a successful and hitch free orientation course, the Coordinator warned that any recalcitrant among them who refused to wear the face mask or observe other protocols shall be dealt with in line with the provision of the NYSC Bye Law.
