The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has led some management staff and representatives of 2022 Batch 'A' (Stream II) corps members to the palaces of Olukare and Owa-Ale Adimula of Ikareland on routine visit.
Speaking at the two palaces, the State Coordinator said her visit is to intimate the royal fathers that NYSC and the generality of corps members deployed to Ondo, the Sunshine State have arrived, the ancient and historical town for the orientation course.
Mrs. Ani said that NYSC will continue to cherish the fatherly support the two first class and prominent rulers have been giving to the Scheme since inception.
She said that NYSC management in the state will not hesitate to seek the wise counsel of the foremost rulers whenever the need arises while maintaining that the camp has been a blessing to the entire Akoko Division of the state.
The NYSC Ondo State boss reminded the custodians of the heritage of Akoko people of her initial request for philanthropists and well meaning sons and daughters of the ancient town to come over to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp and invest their resources to help develop the place.
She told the rulers of the urgent need for assistance from them to mitigate against the multiple damages caused to some hostels and facilities by the violent and strong winds which accompanied the first rain of the year in Ikareland.
Responding separately at their palaces, the Olukare and Owa-Ale Adimula promised to address their respective subjects on the matter and make them see reasons why the camp should not suffer.
At Olukare's palace, His Royal Majesty Oba Akadiri Momoh confirmed that NYSC is assisting both the citizens and the residents as the economic activities of the town is always on the increase each time there is orientation course.
Oba Momoh, who is one time Chairman of Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers said that his people are fully committed to the development of the camp and will do everything humanly possible to preserve what the Federal Government bequeathed to them.
"We fought for the establishment of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko and our subjects were happy when the Federal Government conceded to our request why the camp should be in Ikareland. We shall continue to ensure that it remains our pride and source of income to our teeming citizens and residents alike" he said.
At the palace of Owa-Ale Adimula of Ikareland, HRM Oba Adefemi Adegbite-Adedoyin hinted that the efforts put in place by Owa-Ale in Council will soon begin to yield positive results.
"We have taken some steps and made some contacts which I am confident will yield positive results and I want to assure you and your team that we are not resting on our oars but we are working on the way forward for the camp to remain our heritage".
The monarch appreciated the NYSC for introducing the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to wage war against graduate unemployment which had become a serious issue in the country.
He encouraged the corps members to complement the good plans of the Scheme towards creating a future for them by embracing the intervention which had lifted several ex-corps members out of poverty.
"My children in the service to the nation, NYSC has created a platform for you to tackle the monster called unemployment. You don't need a fortune as your start-up capital because the Scheme has several funding options that will stabilise you and I want to admonish you to key into the opportunities provided by the programme".
"Some of your predecessors who embraced the programme are today employers of labour and wealth creators. The fact remains that paid employment are shrinking and no longer attractive but what you can do with your hands will definitely add value to your intimidating certificates you possess" he concluded.
The two rulers prayed for the continuous existence of the Scheme as well as divine protection for all camp officials and corps members serving their fatherland nationwide.
