There are indications that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan will be announced as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prior to this, Crisis has been rocking the ruling party, as Members of the All Progressives Congress’ National Working Committee are divided over the nomination of a consensus presidential candidate for the party.
The PUNCH gathered that members of the NWC met on Tuesday in line with the directive of the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), that a consensus candidate should be picked after consultation.
It was learnt that during the meeting, a candidate was announced to be Buhari’s candidate but members of the NWC kicked.
A member of the NWC told our correspondent that Ahmed Lawan was announced as the consensus candidate.
This, he said, other members kicked against, leading to a division among the NWC members.
Meanwhile, Thirteen of the fourteen Northern Governors of the APC have re-affirmed their earlier position on shifting power to the south.
They made the re-affirmation in Abuja, while briefing State House Correspondents on the outcome of their latest meeting with President Buhari on their stance.
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Chairman of Northern Governors of the APC, who addressed newsmen, said their decision was based on the need to uphold the country’s unity, peace, and progress.
He said President Buhari had told them that he did not have an anointed candidate, and therefore urged them to consult with the National Working Committee of the party to produce a credible flagbearer.
The Governor said they had immediately set up a committee to meet with National Working Committee on their stance, saying that they meet with the President again and inform him of the outcome.
