Owo attack: Oyo CAN commisserates with Church, Ondo Govt

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter, has condoled with Ondo State Government and the people over Sunday’s attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.

Oyo CAN Chairman, Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, gave the commiseration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Monday.

NAN reports that gunmen on Sunday attacked the church, killed scores and injure many worshipers.

Akinyemiju said the act was uncalled, saying the perpetrators had shown no respect for human lives and the church, being a sacred place of worship.

“Even in war, anyone in the church or hospital is supposed to be spared and safe.

“The meaning of this is that children of God cannot worship their God freely anymore,” he said.

The state CAN boss, therefore, advised the Federal Government to reach out to other countries and seek ideas on how to put more measures in place to protect the citizens.

According to him, the government should ensure that perpetrators of such acts, across the country, are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.

“Children of God must, however, remain prayerful, careful and do all it takes to keep themselves safe," he said.

Akinyemiju also appealed to the Federal Government to do more in the area of security to protect the lives of citizens.

He further urged Christians to remain prayerful for God to intervene in the security situation in the country.

“Oyo State CAN commiserates with the people, the Church and the Government of Ondo State on this ugly and ungodly incident.

“May God grant all the departed eternal rest and offer all mourners the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
