Soyinka: The Kongi of Africa

By Jide Ogidan

Forest of words, he thinks, talks and criticizes fearlessly
A unique tree in the forest of intimidating words
His criticism and strong directional observations always
Put and intimidate our selfish governments in obvious check
Words become his water, blood and vain in his system

A figure of hope for the oppressed and the rejected
The light and shinning mentor for the lettered
A mentor and guardian for our countless youths
The only standing academic guru of Literature
A symbol of enlightment, exposure and education

Special breed, divinely planted in Africa by Eledumare!
The fighter of the suppressed and repressed Nigeria students
A union leader and academic mentor to many a youths
What a gargantuan edifice among African academics
Complex to codify but simple to misunderstand with words

A man of many parts in the heart of African Continent
The beauty of African in the heart of African but for the world
A rear and special breed, the only one among us
Respected, cherished and loved by many, fear by the oppressors
Soyinka! The god of letters in the heart of Africa
