Nysc Acting DG, Mrs. Christy Uba visits Oyo Secretariat, commissions legacy projects

The Acting Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Christy Uba ( FNCS, MCPN, FCIA) was received with pomp and pageantry in a carnival like atmosphere at the NYSC Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi Gate Ibadan, where she commissioned trailblazing projects which included an 800-seater capacity Ultra-Modern Hall, the renovated SERVICOM office, and rehabilitated secretariat complex and ICT HUB at the Oyo State NYSC Secretariat.

In her address, Mrs Christy Uba described the project as a laudable one that will stand the test of time and enhance the scheme's activities in the state.

She said the State Coordinator is a highly Skilled Administrator who has led the secretariat to attain unprecedented accomplishments.

According to the acting Director-General, Ogbuogebe's experience in managing individuals as well as coordinating with relevant government agencies, her ability to effectively manage meager resources are the foundation of the progress that has been made since she assumed office as the 20th State Coordinator of the Oyo State Secretariat.

Uba, who commended the coordinator’s exemplary style of leadership which birthed the infrastructural revolution, said that the projects would undoubtedly improve the productivity of the secretariat staff and the scheme's activities in the state.

In her welcome address, the Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe, said that on her assumption of office, she discovered that the secretariat lacked a conducive hall where meetings and other events could hold and this forced the secretariat  to hold its meetings and events outside the office premises.

Ogbuogebe said her resolve to improve the welfare of staff and Corps members and provide solutions to some precarious challenges hampering the smooth operation of the Scheme in Oyo State prompted her to embark on the projects.

She noted that despite the paucity of funds and the effect of the global economy on the prices of goods and services, her administration was able to finance the project with donations and support from some Government functionaries, friends of the Scheme as well as the unyielding support of members of staff of the secretariat.

The State Coordinator expressed her delight that she was able to see through the completion of the projects and  appreciated the Management of the scheme for allowing her to make  modest contributions to the development of the Scheme.

She said aside from providing a modern and versatile space for meetings and events, the new multipurpose hall will end the history of renting meeting venues that have plagued the secretariat since it moved to its present location since 1992.

In addition, the  renovated SERICOM office and the rehabilitation of the secretariat complex will provide a conducive working environment for the  staff, thereby improving their efficiency and productivity.

"The journey of life is not for the feeble-minded. It takes only men and women of great determination to reach and attain their goals, and this succinctly defines Ogbuogebe's outstanding accomplishments.

"It is worthy of note that her exceptional style of leadership has brought an unprecedented transformation to all facets of administration at the secretariat.

Her tactical audacity has once again put in motion a developmental blueprint that would steer the activities of the NYSC scheme in the right direction and position the secretariat to live up to its label as the pacesetter".
