Corps members deployed to Oyo State and dislodged from Lagos for 2022 Batch C stream ll service year have been urged to build their capacity for demand driving skills for income generating opportunities and greater relevance.
The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe gave the charge during the Official flag-off of SAED in-camp training for 2022 Batch C stream ll Prospective Corps Members, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin.
Ogbuogebe said that Nigeria is currently grappling with high rate of unemployment, insecurity and increase in crime rate which has negatively impacted on the economy.
She therefore implored the PCMs to step out of their comfort zone and shun luscious temptation for money and embark on worthy ventures through acquisition of demand driving skills.
SC opined that any country seeking economic growth and development must embrace vocational skills for wealth sustainability,unemployment reduction and improvement in the Gross Domestic Product.
She added that one of the objectives of NYSC SAED is to create entrepreneurial and self reliant spirit which will help them explore income generation opportunities on various Skills that would be introduced to them during their 10 days intensive training.
The State Coordinator disclosed that the Scheme had partnered with competent and experienced facilitators to train them for free on camp in their chosen skills which cut across various sets.
The Skill sets include, ICT, Agro-allied , Hair dressing Make Up and Gele, Photography, fashion designing amongst others.
" All these training will equip you for self sustenance" she advised.
She reiterated that NYSC has partnered with various Financial Institutions that can give them soft loans and start up Capitals which will help them build their businesses to desired level.
Ogbuogebe also encouraged them to have good business ethics, integrity, efficiency and honesty in order to find opportunities to become economically active as an entrepreneur or self employed in their own businesses instead of an exclusive focus on white collar jobs.
Earlier the Head of SAED in camp, Mrs Roseline Obayelu said Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme is aimed at instilling a heightened sense of confidence and awaken awareness to the possibility that self employment is a viable career option , rather than finding wage employment.
She therefore enjoined them to take the in-camp training seriously and become self reliant.
Mrs Modupe Ogundipe from National Directorate of Employment equally sensitized the Prospective corps members on how to write a good business plan.
