The Acting Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Christy Ifeyinwa Uba has asserted that deployment of academically qualified Nigerians to states of the federation to participate in the NYSC Scheme is to principally promote unity and integration.
The Acting Director General made the assertion in her address during the Swearing-in Ceremony for the 2022 Batch 'C' (Stream II) corps members deployed to Ondo State.
The NYSC boss who was represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko declared that orientation course is aimed at introducing them to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme.
"It is designed to prepare you for the tasks of the service year through trainings on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical activities, as well as sensitisation on topical national issues, among others".
She continued, 'it is always an avenue which provides the opportunity for you to realise your potentials and attain individual feats both during and after the service year. I therefore enjoin you to take advantage of this golden opportunity to participate in all the camp activities'.
According to her, orientation course will not only offer them the opportunity for broader understanding of the country but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.
The most senior Director to be so appointed as acting Director General of the noble Scheme under the present dispensation reminded the newly inductees of the NYSC family that the Oath of Allegiance they have swore to is very important and it is expected that it will guide their conduct in the service year as well as have a significant influence on their lives after service.
She implored the members of the service corps to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm they have demonstrated so far, especially by remaining compliant with the camp rules and regulations, and distancing themselves from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices'.
"I also urge you to avoid using social media for spreading fake news, fuelling hatred, and other negative purposes, and instead deploy the same for the promotion of national unity and development".
The Mathematics graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria strongly advised the corps members to be security conscious at all times and to report any suspicious characters or activities around them to the appropriate authorities.
While wishing them a seamless and eventful exercise, the helmsman of the laudable Scheme charged them to adhere strictly to the established safety guidelines such as physical distancing, regular washing of hands and avail themselves the services of Camp Clinic whenever the need arises.
The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Honourable Justice Ayedun Olusegun Odusola while administering the Oath of Allegiance on the 1008 prospective corps members made up of 396 males and 612 females admonished them to be proud of their fatherland, cherish the culture, traditions, arts and languages of the nation.
The Chief Judge who was represented by Honourable Justice John Olajide Abe encouraged the corps members to tackle difficulties and challenges in a disciplined and self-reliant manner, constitutionally pursuing grievances and properly channeling such for redress.
