A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mrs Oluyemisi Bamgbose, has urged female lawyers to always balance their roles as women and lawyers.
Bamgbose said that female lawyers should not allow any of their roles to negatively affect the other.
Bamgbose, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, gave the advice on Thursday in Ibadan during a seminar organised by the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum, Oyo State Chapter.
The seminar had the theme: ‘Female Lawyers: Balancing the Roles And Career Progression’.
The SAN, who was the lead discussant, urged female lawyers to discharge all their roles effectively.
She advised them to earn respect and dignity and share their problems with trusted people.
“When you are in a position especially as a female, do everything possible to make it conducive for those around you.
“The way you behave and talk can make or mar a life, but please make sure you make an individual and not mar a life,” she said.

Abimbola urged female lawyers to develop themselves more and carry themselves properly.
“Through your behaviour, you can change the minds of individuals who think that you cannot do the job. By doing this, you will change their perspective.
“Women should always be courageous and recognise that they can even do better than men,” he said.
Mrs Oluwatosin Ige, also a lawyer, advised female lawyers to be bold and passionate about their profession and learn to network.
“There is nothing we, female lawyers, cannot achieve once we have the passion.
“Always have a supportive partner and make sure everything you need at home is provided before you leave home.
“As a lawyer, I have been known through my boldness, and I don’t allow my career to affect my home and vice versa,” she said.
The chairman of the occasion and first female SAN in Nigeria, Chief Folake Solanke, called on the NBA to embark on projects that would add more value to the legal profession.
Solanke urged NBA to especially embark on projects that would address female trafficking across the borders of Nigeria.
The first female SAN expressed disatisfaction at trafficking of some women used as prostitutes in some countries, and called for more sensitisation against such.
The Chairman of NBA, Ibadan Chapter, Mrs Folasade Aladeniyi, said that the theme was apt.
Aladeniyi said that a woman should be beautiful in all aspects of life.
“There is need for us to balance our roles as lawyers and professionals the way it should be.
“A woman should be beautiful inside and outside,” she said. (NAN)
