Earlier, The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina while welcoming everyone to the epoch-making event organized by the Faculty of Education said, it is worthy to note that the professional body has done greatly to the teaching profession in Nigeria.

He noted that the occasion is an indication of the quest for quality education in our country.

"As we are all seated here to witness the second induction ceremony of our inductees, as they are being admitted and commissioned officially as qualified professional teachers, you are enjoined to constantly watch the watchword of this professional body –Teaching for Excellence.

Professor Fasina who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bolanle Opoola said, "Let me digress a little by taking you down the historical antecedent that led to the establishment of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria.

"The bill that established the Council was first promulgated in the year 2014. The bill stipulated that for one to be qualified as a professional teacher, one must possess educational qualification of either of NCE. B.Sc + PGDE; B.Sc + NCE; B.Ed, M.Ed; M.Sc + PGDE; M.Sc + NCE; PhD in the field of education or PhD in any other field with Education Qualification i.e PGDE/NCE.

"It is also important to let you know that a teacher is required to renew his/her licence every three (3) years to make you constantly relevant as a professional teacher. Being inducted today should not be seen as final exercise and it does not make your professional certificate irreversible.

"This implies that a registered teacher may be deregistered on several grounds which include forgery of registration documents; conviction by court of law for criminal offence; conviction by the teachers Tribunal for the breach of professional conduct and other related offences.

"This is a clear indication that you are expected to be professional in your conduct and fulfil the motto: Teaching for Excellence.

"The Teachers’ Registration Council is the body saddled with the responsibility of regulating and conducting examinations for those who want to be professional teachers in Nigeria. The body also issues certificate to those who are qualified having satisfied all the requirements.

"To be registered by TRCN, you must have passed the professional qualifying examination, apart from your educational based certificate. Having gone through the rigorous academic qualification in Education and also passing the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), I felicitate with all the one hundred and thirteen (113) awardees of today as you are being inducted into the body of “Chattered Professional Educators.

”I want to also use this medium to implore all the newly inductees to try as much as possible to do whatever you could positively to improve education and teaching profession within and outside the various Nigeria institutions. You are to further note that you are ambassadors of the Federal University Oye Ekiti.

"Dear inductees, I congratulate you all on this auspicious and epoch making event. I strongly believe that this induction ceremony will serve as a wakeup call and an eye opener to the general public that teaching as a profession has moved from the point it used to be, to an enviable position.

"We want to see everyone in this position as a TEACHER and not a CHEATER.  As a matter of fact, in the nearest future, teachers’ professional qualifying examination for TRCN Certificate has to be a pre-requisite for employment as a teacher at all teaching levels.

The event was witnessed by University Librarian, Dr. Isaac Busayo, Dr.Phillip Ajewole,  Faculty Officer, Mr. Olusola Taiwo among others

Newsline NG however gathered that TRCN is a body just like COREN for Engineers, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for Medical Doctors, ICAN for Chattered Accountants, amongst others.
