Promote your indigenous culture anywhere, State coord advices Ondo corps members

The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has asserted that no culture is superior to others as every culture is unique with its own special features.

The State Coordinator made the assertion in her speech during the Cultural Carnival that signify the end of social activities for the 2023 Batch 'A' (Stream II) orientation course.

Mrs. Ani disclosed that Cultural Carnival is designed to showcase the rich cultures and diversity of the nation as the event coincided with fifty years anniversary of the establishment of the NYSC.

"This celebration of our heritage and identity is unique as it coincided with the celebration of the milestone which the noble Scheme has attained. This month is regarded as NYSC month as it reminds us of the establishment of the laudable Scheme fifty solid years ago and it is an incontrovertible fact that human race accords special recognition to Golden Jubilees".

While urging them to rejoice and celebrate the milestone, she admonished them to promote the indigenous cultures wherever they find themselves on the surface of the earth and ensure that culture does not go into extinct.

"Let us value what we have rather than giving more attention to the culture and ways of life that modernisation and civilisation has foist on us and I want to let you know that your education and exposure stands you in a better stead to encourage the younger ones who sees you as role models and influencers to return to the old glorious days of identifying with our root".

"Let us dissipate our youthful energy to re-awaken the interest of the younger generation into our cultural heritage and identity. We can all be Cultural Ambassadors with the sole aim of creating awareness and embarking on sensitisation and advocacy visits to schools, public places to show them how beautiful our cultures are"

The NYSC Ondo State boss disclosed that the carnival should not be seen only from the angle of entertainment but should be seen as a call to give more attention to the promotion of the cultural values 'so that we can have what to bequeath to the generations coming after us and if you don't blow your trumpet with all dexterity, no one will blow it for you" she advised.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Scheme in Ondo, the Sunshine State called on Government at all levels, stakeholders, opinion moulders as well as community leaders to come together and fashion out ways through which Nigeria cultures, values and identity will be given a boost.

"There should be a template to implement all the recommendations of this body for the overall benefit of Nigerians" she advised.

At the end of beautiful and elegant display of cultures by the representatives of corps members, number 5 platoon which showcased Igala culture came first while number 1 platoon which entertained the camp community with Urhobo culture came second and number 7 platoon with Tiv culture was declared third position.
