Nysc remains a binding force, State coord tells Oyo corps members

The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche has said that NYSC remains a binding force and provides the Nigerian graduates the avenue to be exposed to the the uniqueness and the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria.

The State Coordinator made the statement while declaring open the Cultural Carnival for the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream two Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.

Addressing the Corps members during the Cultural Carnival, he stated that the scheme mobilizes young Nigerian graduates to other communities and  cultures other than theirs to have first hand experience of other cultures.

Odoba mentioned that the NYSC Scheme remains focused in fostering unity among diverse ethnic group in the Country.

He added that currently NYSC is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of its establishment and he appealed to stakeholders in the public and private sectors to continue to support the scheme to fulfil more on its mandate.

Members of each platoon displayed different costumes , dance steps, food and lifestyle of the culture they represent during their presentation. 

The eventful programme was proudly sponsored by Omoola Travels, Indomie foods, Munch it,Lipton and Peak Milk and Performances of each platoon were judged by Panel of Judges consisting NYSC Official Mrs Adewa Ajoke, Head NDLEA DSN Achichi Ojeifun and Deputy Camp Director, Mr. Akinsola Gabriel.

After examining the performance of each platoon with criteria ranging from originality, coordination and creativity among others, platoon 4 which displayed the Igbo culture emerged the winner of the Inter-platoon Cultural Carnival for the 2023  Batch ‘A’ Stream two Orientation Course while platoon 9 which displayed Idoma culture clinched the second position and Platoon 5 which showcased the Egba culture got third place.

Indomie Cooking Competition was also organized for the 10  platoons as part of the programme to test their culinary skills at cooking different cuisines as young Nigerians. Platoon 6 emerged Winner of the cooking competition, platoon 2 came second while platoon 1 came third.
