The Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo has urged Nigerians to use the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ to bring an end to banditry and injustice in the country.
Badejo emphasised that Christ’s birth should also bring an end to bad governance, bribery, corruption, bloodshed and all vices.
He made the remark on Wednesday in his Christmas message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ibadan.
The Catholic Bishop urged leaders to empower people, especially youths and bring joy to all by spreading justice.
“Our leaders at all levels should repent, help those out in your care, in the families, churches, businesses and society at large,” he said.
He also advised all faithful to shun hypocrisy and live their faith fully.
“Let others enjoy God’s goodness through you, share love, goodwill for there is happiness in giving than in receiving.
“Stop hurting others, cheating or exploiting others, forgive others, make peace, not war; let the light of Christ shine in you to overcome the darkness of the world.
“In this way, we all will have life and have it to the full,” he said.
According to him, the Christmas story is fascinating because it’s the story of a baby.
“Babies represent hope and humility; Jesus embodies our hope for a better world.
“Christmas is all about Jesus Christ, the reason for the season, in Him all find hope of salvation.
“So, to truly rejoice and celebrate Christmas, we must emulate Him by doing good and following His commandments; Merry Christmas to all and a peaceful, progressive new year for our nation,” Badejo said. (NAN)
