Tension gripped Akure on Tuesday as chaos erupted at the Ondo State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when suspected armed thugs disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting.
The incident reportedly sent party members scampering for safety, abruptly bringing the meeting to an end. While some leaders sustained injuries during the commotion, others managed to escape unhurt.
Sources disclosed that party chieftains and officials had gathered at the secretariat for what was described as a routine stakeholders’ meeting when the violence broke out.
Eyewitnesses said a group of young men, allegedly armed with sticks, machetes and other crude weapons, stormed the premises without warning, shouting threats and causing panic among attendees.
As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the attack remained unclear. Efforts to reach party officials for comments were unsuccessful, as calls placed to them were not answered.
