Gov Aiyedatiwa Charges Corps Members to Build Lasting Legacies Through Selfless Service

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has challenged members of the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps to become agents of positive change by leaving lasting legacies in their host communities through dedicated and selfless service.

The Governor's message was delivered by the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream I Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko.

Addressing the corps members, the Governor reminded them that the orientation course had equipped them with the values of patriotism, discipline, leadership, teamwork and national unity. He urged them to put these lessons into practice as they proceed to their various Places of Primary Assignment.

He encouraged the corps members to actively participate in Community Development Service by identifying the genuine needs of their host communities and initiating projects that would create lasting impact. According to him, true national service is measured by the positive difference corps members make in the lives of the people they serve.

The Governor also advised them to uphold integrity, excellence and patriotism throughout their service year. He urged them to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities while remaining neutral in local politics and traditional matters.

On entrepreneurship, he encouraged the corps members to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme by acquiring practical skills that would make them self reliant after service. He advised them not to wait for opportunities but to create them through innovation and hard work.

Reassuring the corps members of the government's commitment to their wellbeing, the Governor stated that the Ondo State Government would continue to work with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure their safety and welfare throughout the service year.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of letters of commendation to outstanding camp officials for their exceptional commitment during the orientation exercise. Mr. Williams Daudu received the award in the NYSC category while Mrs. Oluwatosin Yinka Mary of the Man ‘O’ War  was honoured in the non NYSC category.

Court Strikes out Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy Declaration

A High court sitting in Okitipupa has nullified the Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy declaration, holding that the State Government had no power to create a new chieftaincy without the consent of the Rebuja of Osooro land, the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in the communities within Osooro land, including Iju-Odo Community. The court declared that the Rebuja of Osooro land is the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in Osooro land and that the State Government has no power to create a new chieftaincy without following due process.  In a judgement made available to our correspondent, the court also held that the appointment of the 6th defendant as the Oniju of Iju-Odo was null and void, as it was not done in accordance with the custom and tradition of Iju-Odo.
