My Political Relevance Predates Aiyedatiwa's Administration --- EX-SSA, Gbamila

Former Senior Special Assistant on Multimedia to the Ondo State Governor, Pastor Taiwo Ilesanmi Gbamila, has defended his political relevance and professional accomplishments, insisting that his influence in Ondo State politics was firmly established long before the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Gbamila made the remarks in a lengthy message shared on an Osowa WhatsApp platform, where he responded to criticisms questioning his political contributions and achievements.

In his response, the former governor's aide traced his career in public service, journalism, publishing and grassroots politics, maintaining that his appointment in the Aiyedatiwa administration was only one chapter in a journey that had begun years earlier.

According to him, he previously served as Supervisor for Special Duties and later as Chief Press Secretary in the Ilaje Local Government between 2015 and 2016, before Aiyedatiwa assumed office as governor.

Gbamila also highlighted his media and literary accomplishments, stating that he founded Coastal Renaissance News while studying at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He noted that he published his first book, Victims of Political Quagmire in Nigeria, in 2011 and has since authored several other books.

He said his success as a publisher and author enabled him to attain financial independence before venturing into partisan politics, stressing that he had built a successful career and acquired personal assets through legitimate businesses before holding any government appointment.

The former aide also reflected on the political crisis that trailed moves to impeach Governor Aiyedatiwa, claiming he was among the administration's earliest defenders when many political associates allegedly distanced themselves from the governor.

Gbamila asserted that he played a key role in defending the governor through media advocacy, strategic communication and political mobilisation, adding that his efforts earned him recognition from several prominent figures within the political family.

He equally reaffirmed his loyalty to the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, describing him as a central figure during the impeachment saga.

According to Gbamila, he has maintained a political relationship with Poroye for nearly two decades, built on loyalty, trust and shared political ideals rather than the pursuit of political appointments.

He further stated that political relevance should not be measured solely by public office, arguing that his reputation has been built through years of consistency, grassroots engagement, media advocacy and public service.

Speaking on his exit from the Aiyedatiwa administration, Gbamila said the decision was personal and honourable. 

He explained that after concluding he could no longer find fulfilment in the administration despite his contributions, he chose to resign without acrimony.

His remarks have generated discussions within political circles in Ondo State, particularly among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with many viewing the statement as a reaffirmation of his political standing amid ongoing realignments ahead of future political engagements.

Court Strikes out Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy Declaration

A High court sitting in Okitipupa has nullified the Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy declaration, holding that the State Government had no power to create a new chieftaincy without the consent of the Rebuja of Osooro land, the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in the communities within Osooro land, including Iju-Odo Community.
