The Ondo State Governor,  Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the authorities of the Nigeria Police, families and well wishers of victims of the unfortunate car crash in Akure. The accident which occurred on Tuesday had claimed two lives, both men of the PMF Base in Akure even as many were injured in the mishap. "The scene was rather disturbing and quite pitiful as I got there shortly after it happened. Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has advised his Deputy and opponent in last Saturday’s governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, to resign. Akeredolu spoke to State House Correspondents after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari in company of other Governors of the party in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday. The Governor also said he would be willing to forgive his Deputy of his ‘sins’ if he realised his wrongs and comes back to apologise. Ajayi dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC) under which he was elected with Akeredolu and contested the governorship under the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) without resigning his post. The Inspector General police, Mohammad Adamu has formed a new Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) squad to “fill the gaps” left by the notorious police unit Federal Special Anti-robbery squad(FSARS). “The IGP has also set up a new Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Tram will fill the gaps arising from dissolution of the defunct SARS. Two mobile policemen has lost their lives in a fatal accident along Oba-Ile road, Akure North local government of Ondo state. The unfortunate incident which happened today was reported to have caused by over speeding and the police driver lost control in the process. It was also gathered that eight others were said to have been critically injured. An eyewitnesses said Police hilux van somersaulted several times before hitting a pavement due to over-speeding by the driver. Ondo Police spokesman, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the accident but said two of their men were lost, while other people that sustained various degrees of injuries are at the police clinic receiving treatment. Spokesperson for the Onde Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Omotola Ogungbawo, also confirmed the development.

The Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in yesterday’s gubernatorial election in Ondo state and incumbent governor of the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has emerged winner of the keenly contested election. Akeredolu, popularly known as Aketi, won the election by polling 292,830 to beat his closest rival and candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, who recorded 195,791 votes, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Akure, Sunday. Coming third in the contest is the flagbearer of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi, with 69,127 votes.
