Ondo: Our partnership with Nysc, cordial --- DSS

The State Director of Security, Department of State Services (DSS), Ondo State Command, Mr. Muhammed Saidu Hussain, fsi, has disclosed that the Security Service has a long-standing partnership with the National Youth Service Corps.  The State Director of Security made this known when he hosted the new NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, who paid him courtesy call at the Command Headquarters in Akure, the state capital.  Hussain, who is very versatile about NYSC operations, declared that the noble Scheme has done massively in developing the potential of the graduate youths.  According to the intelligence chief, NYSC has  remained a laudable scheme that has sustained the unity of the country in line with the vision of the founding fathers.  He said that the Command will continue to build on the robust relationships with NYSC, saying that the collaboration has begun since the establishment of the two institutions.  Hussain, while assuring...

Supreme Court reserves judgment in 19 states' suit challenging constitutionality of EFCC, others

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, reserved judgment in the suit filed by 19 states challenging the constitutionality of the laws establishing the EFCC and two others to a date to be communicated to the parties. The plaintiffs, in the suit marked: SC/CV/178/2023 had argued that the Supreme Court, in Dr. Joseph Nwobike Vs Federal Republic of Nigeria, had held that it was a UN Convention against corruption that was reduced into the EFCC Establishment Act and that in enacting this law in 2004, the provision of Section 12 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, was not followed.  The argument was that, in bringing a convention into the Nigerian law, the provision of Section 12 must be complied with.  According to them, the provision of the Constitution necessitated the majority of the states' Houses of Assembly agreeing to bringing the convention in before passing the EFCC Act and others, which was allegedly never done.
