RUGIPO reopens for academic activities

Kidnappers Free Ondo Driver After Paying a Ransom

Felix Akinde, the Commercial driver who was kidnapped on Akure/Ikere road has been released. Mr. Akinde was set free on Saturday midnight after spending four nights in captivity, and with his abductors. SaharaReporters gathered that his release followed series of negotiations between the driver's family and the kidnappers. A source who confirmed the release of Mr. Akinde to SaharaReporters on Sunday night, said the driver was set free by his kidnappers along the bush path on the Akure/Ado road. He also disclosed that the total sum of Five hundred thousand naira was paid by the families before he could be free from captivity. "He (Akinde) was released Saturday evening by his abductors, and we all saw him looking rough and dirty. "The driver was released after those kidnappers negotiated ransom with his family members and the union. "I wish you could see how the driver was terribly flogged and beaten wit some bruises all over his body....

NYSC Sanctions 17 Corps Members In Ondo

The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC has sanctioned 17 corps members deployed to Ondo state for acts of Indiscipline. Those affected were supposed to be part of the 1,712 corps members for 2018 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) who passed out on Thursday in Ondo state. Out of the 17, ten corps member will repeat service for abscondment while seven will have their service year extended. The Ondo State NYSC Secretariat has however released Certificates of National Service to 1,712 corps members who successfully completed their one year mandatory service to the nation. The 1,712 corps members made up of 929 males and 792 females, passed out of service at a low key events in all the eighteen Local Governments of the state. Poor welfare of Nigerian Journalists unpleasant -Former Ondo SSG

A former Secretary to the Ondo state government and ex-Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the state, Hon Isaacs Kekemeke, on Wednesday said the poor condition of journalists in Nigeria is very unpleasant. He described the media as very powerful and indispensable segment of the society which its practitioners deserve better welfare package in this country to enable them deliver on their daily responsibilities to the society. The Pioneer Board Chairman of National Examination Council (NECO) stated this in his office in Akure while playing host to the new Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo state Council chaired by Adetona Aderoboye. Muslim Cleric, 43, Rapes 5-year-old Girl Inside Mosque In Nigeria

An islamic Cleric, Abdulsalam Salaudeen, was on Monday remanded by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in a mosque. Justice Abiola Soladoye, who obliged the prosecutor’s request for the remand, adjourned the case until October 14 for trial. Mr. Salaudeen, 43, is being tried for allegedly defiling the child, who was under his tutelage. The prosecutor, T. Olanrewaju-Dawodu, told the court that Mr. Salaudeen committed the offence on December 22, 2018, at the premises of Olorunbabe Mosque at No. 15, Palace Road, Igando, Lagos. Ms. Olanrewaju-Dawodu said that Mr. Salaudeen, popularly called Alfa, was caught raping the child via the footage of a hidden camera which was installed within the premises of the mosque by suspicious individuals. The defendant, residing at No. 16, Awoyemi St., Ikotun, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Girl Allegedly Steals Phone, Eats without Paying at Lagos Hotel

A 23 year-old woman, Divine Isa, on Monday in Lagos appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a cell phone worth N260, 000. Isa, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences and stealing. She pleaded not guilty. The Prosecutor, Insp. Mojirade Edeme, however, said that the defendant committed the offences with one other still at large on June 13, at Ikeja Traveler Inn Hotel, Lagos. She said that the defendant stole the phone belonging to the complainant, Mr Victor Onekama. Edeme said that the defendant also obtained a plate of food and drinks valued at N32, 000 on the pretext that she would pay later, a representation she knew was false. “The defendant and her accomplice entered the hotel, ordered a plate of food, and drinks, and after eating, stole the phone from where the complainant had kept it. “They sneaked out of the hotel without paying for the food and drinks consumed. “She was later appre...

Fayemi Inaugurates Panels On Justice Sector Reforms, Human Trafficking

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has inaugurated the State Justice Sector Reform Committee in a bid to reposition the administration of justice. Fayemi also inaugurated the State Task Force on Human Trafficking to declare his administration’s zero tolerance for human trafficking and using the state as a base for the perpetration of the crime. The Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, performed the inauguration of the two committees on behalf of Fayemi at a ceremony held at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti on Monday. According to a statement signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Deputy Governor, Odunayo Ogunmola, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda, is the chairman of the two committees. Pastor jailed for faking his own kidnap

The Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court Sitting in Ado Ekiti on Monday remanded in Prison a Pastor of a Methodist Church in Ado Ekiti, Reverend Adegoke Adewuyi who faked his own kidnap and his accomplice Ajewole Oluwadare. When the case was mentioned today, Police Prosecutor Mrs Monica Ekebuilo informed the court that the accused committed the offence on the eleventh of this month at a hotel within Ado Ekiti metropolis She stated that the act of aiding and abetting kidnapping as well as false representation committed by the cleric was grievous and punishable under section 5 and 7 of state kidnap and terrorism prohibition law.. Mrs Ekebuilo told the court that the suspect has confessed to the crime of demanding three million naira as ransom having faked his own kidnap.
