Nigerians urged to Support Red Cross Society

Nigerians have been urged to give more support to humanitarian service of the Red Cross Society. Oyo State Chaiperson, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mrs Mojisola Ojo made the call during the annual general meeting of the body held at its headquarters, Onireke Ibadan Mrs Ojo who appreciated donations to the society by Nigerians, explained that  Covid-19 had heightened humanitarian needs, hence the call for more support for the Red Cross to assist more people Mrs Ojo while reviewing the achievements and activities of the society in 2021, said appreciable progress was recorded amidst various challenges. Truck crushes man to death in Akoko community

A yet-to-be identified Okada rider has been crushed to death by a truck ascending the Okerigbo hill in Akungba Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident narrated that the truck hit the commercial motorcyclist who was coming from Ikare Akoko, a neighbouring town.  However, the truck was set ablazed by angry youths in the community

  Online Journalists in Ondo state under the auspices of the Online Media Professionals (OMP) have appealed to aspirants vying for the vacant position of Akure North/South federal constituency in the election coming up on February 26, to focus issue based campaigns rather than venturing into attacks and other form of hooliganism. This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Association, Hakeem Adebumiti and Secretary, Tope Adedeji. It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had announced the date for the vacant seat following the demise of Hon. Adedayo Omolafe who was occupying the seat until his death in August last year. Timber dealers kidnapped in Ondo

Gunmen struck yesterday at Auga—Akunnu axis in Akoko North West Local Area of Ondo State, kidnapping no fewer than three persons . It was gathered that the abducted victims chiefly timber dealers from Ogun State came to Ikare Akoko to purchase planks and decided to ply the Akunnu-Auga route as exit way when the gunmen ambushed them.  Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Ikare-Akoko, SP Akintelure Akinwande, said three persons were kidnapped but one of abductees was rescued by the Police. AAUA: Reparation Fee reduced To N10000

After appeal from the leadership of the Students’ Union Government of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), the reparation fee of returning students have now been pegged at N10000 . The management of AAUA resolved to reduce the fee after a high powered meeting on Tuesday. The reparation fee which was earlier pegged at N20000 became imperative after the Students went on rampage last year, destroying properties of the institution. At the meeting held under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, the following resolutions were arrived at: The reparation fee earlier pegged to the tune of #20, 000 per student has now been reduced to #10,000. However, physically impaired students will be exempted from paying the reparation fee. Ondo: 8 Die in Road Accident

No fewer than eight persons have reportedly died in a road accident at the Bagbe axis of the Ondo-Ore Expressway in Ondo State on Tuesday. It was also gathered that many others also sustained injuries in the Road crash. The accident involved an 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ARC 616 XA and a truck with no number plate. An eyewitness said the crash occurred when the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle, thereby colliding with the truck at the other lane of the road. The incident was said to have caused traffic logjam for several hours and it took the intervention of the men of the Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the policemen before the road was cleared. An officer of the FRSC, who did not want his name mentioned said the accident happened as a result of speed limit violation and dangerous overtaking on the part of the vehicles involved.
