2023: What Nigerians need to do --- Cardinal Onaiyekan

By Chidinma Ewunonu-Aluko, Ibadan The Archbishop Emeritus, Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has urged Nigerians to live in harmony toward achieving the desired results as the nation is preparing for the 2023 general elections. Onaiyekan gave the admonition on Saturday at the 2022 Harvest Thanksgiving Mass and Bazaar of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, held at St. Bernardine Catholic Church, Owode in Oyo Town. The archbishop emeritus, also urged Nigerians to always be honest and transparent in all their dealings. He called for a change of attitude among Nigerians from the leadership to the followership. “We need to start doing things right, if we must make progress; the country should also change its idea of politics. “Politics is not all about personal enrichment, but selflessly serving the people; it should be total service for the people; so, we need politicians with a new mind,” he said. Bad road: Activist threatens to sue FERMA

Due to deplorable condition of Federal roads across the federation,  a Human Right Activist, Comrade Bolawa Akindolie has threatened to approach a competent court of jurisdiction and institute a court action against the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA)  The Ondo town-based activist in a later dated 16th of September, 2022, a copy which was made available to our  correspondent, lamented over the worsen and deplorable condition of the popular Ondo/Ore as well as Ondo/ Akure roads. The letter addressed to the Director General of FERMA,  Engr. Nurudeen Abdurahman, give the Federal Agency two weeks ultimatum  to as a matter of urgency and embark on massive repair  of the road which he said is in deplorable conditions. After months, ASUU suspends strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has suspended its eight month old strike . The union is yet to make an official pronouncement. It  was gathered that the decision was taken at the end of the National Executive Council meeting which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja. Speaking with our correspondent, a highly informed source within the NEC said, “Yes, it has been called off”. The source said, “the president will release an official circular in the morning”.

Obajana: Kogi Govt replies Dangote, says acquisition must be separated from Asset-grabbing

The Kogi State Government, on Wednesday, responded to Dangote Industries Limited's insistence on 100 per cent ownership of Obajana Cement Company, saying that DIL's efforts at making Kogi State's demand appear unreasonable had only justified the state's protest against what it described as "callous and deliberate asset grabbing."  The state government maintained that Obajana Cement Company was solely founded in 1992 and owned by the state, which held 100 per cent of its shareholding in trust for its people, long before DIL ventured into the state and longer still before Dangote Cement Plc came into existence.  In a detailed response to Dangote Group's advertorial, titled, "Separating Facts From Fiction", the Kogi State Government noted that successive administrations had always invited Dangote Industries Limited and Dangote Cement Plc to prove that the Group paid anything at all  for the purported acquisition of Obajana and its alleged 100 per ce...

Architect Obaude, aggrieved others berate PDP for disrespecting party constitution

By Olamide Talub Aggrieved aspirants of the People's Democratic Party, PDP in the 2020 party primaries, including a party chieftain in Ondo North senatorial district, Architect Tunde Obaude, have berated the party leaders for not respecting the party constitution.   Obaude, who faulted the conduct of the  concluded party primaries that mostly result to court cases, lamented that the outcome of the primaries were dissatisfying as many of the results are being challenged in court. Speaking on the Akoko North East constituency primary, he lamented that “The Ondo north PDP primary wasn't fair enough. it wasn't done in accordance to the laid down rules of the party. The National Youth Service Corps Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe has stated that Knowledge cannot be exhausted.  She made the statement at the in-house training for members of staff held at the NUT Hall, Agodi,Ibadan. She said acquiring knowledge is a continuous process which is equally an instrument for physical and mental improvement.  Delivering her Opening Remark at the training, she said all members of staff should absorb every information in the In -house Training to enable them make impact while in active service.  She commended the members of staff for their efforts so far and equally advised them to continue to learn as they rise in their career and continue to keep abreast of all the information needed in the discharge of their duties.
